Slideshow: Discovering CMS Through an Alternate Reality Game

Led by Comparative Media Studies professor Beth Coleman, a dozen MIT freshman were introduced to the CMS program by way of an alternate reality game. The student-players deciphered clues hidden around the MIT campus and Boston’s Copley Square as a way to learn both the area and CMS’s unique approach to the humanities.

The “Discovering CMS” program was sponsored by Comparative Media Studies, Council for the Arts Fund, MIT Class of 1972 Fund for Educational Innovation.

About Andrew Whitacre

Andrew directs the communications efforts for CMS/W and its research groups. A native of Washington, D.C., he holds a degree in communication from Wake Forest University, with a minor in humanities, as well as an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College.

His work includes drawing up and executing strategic communications plans, with projects including website design, social media management and training, press outreach, product launches, fundraising campaign support, and event promotions.
